PSV Eindhoven – Bayern Munich Preview

psv-bayern

Although on paper the German side might seem like the big dog in this match-up, the Tuesday nights showdown should provide a very exciting game that could actually decide the two teams advancing to the next stage of the UEFA Champions league. Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have been considered as the favorites in this group since day 1.

The Spanish team is at the top of the group D with 9 points while Bayern has 6 points, PSV Eindhoven owns only 1 point to its name and is ranked third. This means that in case the German side records a win away against PSV, the Dutch team will be left out without any further chances of advancing to the next round, considering that Arsenals should have it easy against the FK Rostov, who also have collected 1 point from the first 3 rounds.

PSV Eindhoven:

PSV Eindhoven has performed pretty decent throughout the season, but they are miles away from what we have been used to seeing from the Dutch champion, who are currently ranked 3rd in the domestic competition. In their last game in the national competition, PSV defeated Vitesse with 2:0 away, a win that was highly needed in order to boost the spirits going into the Tuesday nights match-up against the German powerhouse. While marked as the sure loser of the match-up, PSV hopes to deny a high loss at home and keep their spirits high as their goals is to secure the third spot in the group and reach the Europa league competition. On that note, it is important to note that PSV has collected an extremely important away point against FK Rostov, which means that their focus will only be on the game when they host the Russian team.

Another reason why the Dutch team has been underachieving as of lately, is the fact the Phillip Cocu, the PSV Coach, has had a lot of problems sending the best 11 on the pitch, as some of his key players have been injured. Hendrix, S. de Jong, Narsingh and Locadia have all been fragile and injured, while the goalkeeper Zoet is listed day-to-day.

Bayern Munich:

While the Dutch team is going to the hard times, the German Champion – Bayern Munich seems to be catching its best form, while under the new coach Carlo Ancelotti. Despite the fact that they are not too dominant in the domestic competition, it seems like Bayern has just begun to play as they wish for. Yeah, they did lose to Atletico Madrid in the Champions league, but it is still their only loss in all competitions this season. With the win against the PSV, Bayern could seal the deal and the place for the next round, so look for Lewandowski and co. to come out strong and score some early goals.

The aforementioned Robert Lewandowski has been huge for the Bavarian’s scoring two goals last weekend, while Arjen Robben is also showing some signs of his best days. However, Franck Ribery and Javi Martinez are listed as questionable for the match but other than these two, Ancelotti is able to count on the rest of the players.

PREDICTIONS:

Bayern Munich and PSV have met on 4 different occasions so far, with Bayern recording 2 wins, PSV 1 and one game ended with a draw. There is no doubt that the Dutch team will try to surprise everyone at the Philips Stadion on Tuesday night and keep their chances alive of reaching the next stage. However, with so many injuries of their key players on one side, and the great form of the German team on the other side, I just don’t see PSV winning any points.

Look for both teams scoring, but Bayern Munich taking a win in the end.
