Group A, Round 2.
In the second round of the UEFA Champions League, Paris Saint Germain will travel to Sofia, Bulgaria, where they will face off against one of the most uncomfortable opponents – Ludogorets Razgrad FC.
The Bulgarian team is slowly becoming a team to fear of, after winning the last 5 domestic titles, two Cup and two Super Cup titles, ever since they were first promoted in the Top Bulgarian league back in 2011. In recent years their main focus is to collect European competition experience. In the second ECL group stage appearance, the Bulgarian Champion is hoping to perform well against the big teams Arsenal and PSG. On Wednesday night, in front of their home crowd, Ludogorets hopes to stay undefeated against the French Champion PSG: After winning a point in a 1:1 draw away against Basel, home teams Coach Georgi Dermendzhiev hopes that his players are motivated enough to collect more points. In a recent interview coach Dermendzhiev said that they have reached their goal by qualifying to the group stage of the UEFA Champions league and that from now on the will enter the upcoming games much more relaxed. Although the first two spots of Group A are most likely reserved for PSG and Arsenal, Ludogorets hopes to finish in front of Basel and secure the third spot that will provide them more European competition experience, as they would continue the competition in Europa league. In domestic league, Ludogorets currently holds the third spot. Most recently they have recorder a convincing 5:1 away win over the 9th ranked Vereya. All players should be ready for the match against PSG.
On the other side, the French champions PSG are traveling to Sofia with an imperative to collect all three points. Namely, PSG has disappointed their fan in the first round of the ECL after a 1:1 draw at home. The game started great for the home team after a first minute goal by Cavani, who later missed couple of open situations to score. Arsenal seized their opportunity and leveled the score with a lovely goal of Alexis Sanchez in the 78th minute. Without their key player from last season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left signed for Manchester United this summer, PSG has not been very convincing at the beginning of the 2016/2017 season. PSG has also showcased poor performance in the domestic league as well. Against Toulouse on Friday night, Unai Emery hoped his team would collect all three points which would boost the team’s confidence level ahead of the match against Ludogorets. However, Toulouse has surprised the PSG with a great tactical play and strong defense. In the end PSG lost the game with 2:0 and now are desperate to record a win. Marco Veratti will not be available for the match against Ludogorets after he collected a red card in the first round against Arsenal.
This is the first meeting between these Ludogorets and PSG. It is also the first meeting between French and a Bulgarian teams since 1992/1993. The Bulgarian team is entering the match much more relaxed as their only goal is to gain experience playing against the biggest European teams. On the other side, the French team is under a lot of pressure. No doubt that Unai Emery will find a way to motivate his players, as he is aware that they are facing a very tough and uncomfortable team. According to many betting websites PSG is a clear favorite. We also predict a clean win by the French team with a 3+ total goals scored in the match.
