The UEFA Champions league Matchday 5 in Group G between FC Kobenhavn and Porto is actually direct battle for the knockout stage, considering the fact that the hosts hold the 3rd position in the group with only 2 points behind the 2nd ranked Porto. The English Premier League Champions Leicester City FC tops the group, without suffering a loss and collecting a total of 10 points, while Club Brugge is at the bottom of the group without a single point won so far.
The first game between these two teams, played in Portugal, ended with a 1:1 draw.
The draw in Portugal could actually play a huge role in the closing two round, especially if the hosts manage to win all three points on Tuesday night. After the draw, the Danish team managed to pull a 4:0 win against Club Brugge in the 2nd round, which made it seem like they were on a great way to win one of the first two spots, securing them the knockout stage. However, over the two game against the Foxes, Kobenhavn won only 1 point, while Porto, on the other side, collected 6 points, passing the Danish team for the 2nd spot in group G.
With only two rounds left, Kobenhavn cannot afford to give away more points and will need a win at home if they still want to reach the next round, especially considering that they will travel to Belgium and face the desperate Club Brugge in the last leg. In the domestic competition, Kobenhavn is untouchable at the Top of the Danish Superliga, having collected a total of 41 points, 9 clear of the 2nd ranked Brondby.
Boilesen, Cornelius, Santander and Amankwaa are listed to miss the clash against Porto on Tuesday, which will certainly be a big hit for the hosts.
Compared to Kobenhavn, who are untouchable in the domestic competition, the visitors FC Porto are not shinning in Portugal, considering the current situation as they are 6 points behind the top ranked Benfica. Porto hosted Benfica in the last round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga and came very close to winning all three points, but their hopes came crushing down in the 92nd minute of the match when the visitors equalized the score with a nice goal from Luisao.
Porto played another game in the meanwhile, suffering a defeat in the Portuguese Cup to Chaves, who went on to win after penalty shootouts. Porto saw little importance of that game, sending the second unit onto the pitch, and having the key players rest for the decisive match against Kobenhavn. Important to note is that the visitors do posses much more experience in the European competitions, while at the same time they have 2 points advantage over the Danish team, meaning that they will be more relaxed going into this match. Layun and Neves remain questionable for the game on Tuesday.
The hosts are under a lot of pressure to win this game in front of their home crowd, but I give a slight advantage to the visitors, just because they posses much more experience in games like these and the fact that they have been playing much better lately. Additionally, the hosts will be without some of their key players, who were making the difference on the field. I expect the host to come out strong, but the visitors should withstand the pressure and remain unbeaten. Final score (1:1 or 1:2).
