Champions League debutantes Leicester City are on course to continue their excellent record in the Champions League. They will be travelling to Telia Parken Stadium to face FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.
Leicester City are the leaders of the group G, with 9 points to their name after 3 games. A win or maybe even a draw in this game would be enough to send the English Champions into the round of 16.
On the other side, the hosting team FC Copenhagen will look to revenge the 1:0 defeat suffered two weeks ago at the King Power Stadium. Danish side has collected 4 points from the first three matches and is ranked 2nd, with the same number of points as the third ranked FC Porto, which means that they can’t afford to lose points at home if the want to continue their Champions league campaign!!!
Additional motive for the Danish side will be the fact that the defeat away to Leicester was their only loss in the competition, including even the 3 qualifying round against the Crusaders, Astra and APOEL. In the group stage, they played a draw against Porto (away) and managed to win against Club Brugge at home. They have, additionally, managed to stay unbeaten even in the domestic competition after 15 rounds (10 wins and 5 draws). Despite the fact that FC Copenhagen has a fairly poor record against the English teams (played 9 games with 1 win, 3 draws and 5 losses), the Danish Champion is a tough cookie at home and will have the imperative to win, or at least win 1 point, while the English Champion would be satisfied with a draw, considering that they are basically already in the Group of 16!!!
FC LEICESTER CITY
The visitors in this matchup, Leicester City, is traveling to Denmark without much pressure to secure a win. They would be satisfied with 1 point from this match which would be good enough for them to reach the knockout stage. In their first three rounds, the Foxes have defeated Club Brugge with 3:0 away, while taking all 6 points at home against FC Porto (1:0) and FC Copenhagen (1:0).
While they are performing great in the Champions league, the results in the Premier league have been very disappointing for the Foxes. Just over a month ago, they were eliminated also from the League Cup, while in the domestic competition they have collected only 12 points from 10 games, ranking 11th (3W3D4L). Probably the main reason for their poor performances lies in the fact that the Foxes have not performed well in away games (only 1 draw and 4 losses), which gives hope to the Copenhagen fans and players. Coach Claudio Ranieri will not be able to count on Benalouane, Mendy and James, while Slimani remains questionable.
Leicester City may be debutants in this season’s Champions league competition, but they have certainly shocked the football world with a perfect record from their first three games. Moreover, they seem much focused on keeping an excellent record in the group stage.
However, Copenhagen is on a strong run in the Danish League, and it is a well-known fact that they are tough to bet at home, so we expect the multiple Danish league Champions to use the home field advantage to the fullest and secure at least 1 point. Both teams should open the match very cautiously trying to avoid any mistakes. The most probable outcome will be a draw (0:0 or 1:1)!!!
