This is “win or go home” situation for CSKA Moscow. If they lose they will not continue to participate in European matches this season. If they win they will still have a chance, at least to qualify for the Europa League. But it will be tough. Leverkusen is a good team and their win against Tottenham proves that. They are coming into this game after a win 0:1 against Arsenal Tula in Russian championship, but their game was not good and we could see that they have been struggling, and in some parts of the game, the opponents were even better. The game against Leverkusen will be a huge challenge for the home team.
Do you know that Igor Akinfeev has conceded at least one goal in last 42 European matches? This is such an unpleasant fact for any goalkeeper, especially to one of the best in Europe. Somebody would say that with his numbers he is below average. But the truth is completely the opposite. He’s one of the best goalkeepers in Europe but he has definitely one of the worst defenses in front of him . I mean, the Berezutski brothers are probably two of most overrated players in the history of Russian football. And we do not understand why are they still playing in the first team. If these two players start against Leverkusen, CSKA will concede at least one goal in this match, too. Roman Eremenko has been suspended for using cocaine and this band will last for the next two years in all competitions. This will be a huge setback for home team chances of qualifying to the next round because he’s probably the best player in the whole team.

Zoran Tosic and Lacina Traore we will have to take more responsibility and they should be the leaders in this upcoming match. Without Eremenko these two players will be crucial for performance. They have the skills, they know how to score, to assist and it is time for them to step up and lead the rest of the team.
Midfielders must prevent fast counter-attacks and they need to help the back line with Chicharito because individually he’s better than anyone who’s going to guard him.

Possible Line-ups:
Akinfeev; V.Berezutski, A. Berezutski, Schennikov, Fernandes; Natcho, Golovin; Wernbloom, Tosic, Milanov; Traore.

Bench: Strandberg, Chepchugov, Sergey Ignashevich, Nababkin , Ionov

Manager: Leonid Slutski

Leverkusen had three straight victories, but they ended this streak with losing from Red Bull Leipzig 2:3, this weekend in Bundesliga. They need to stay undefeated in Moscow in order to remain in the second place in the group E. If they win, by any chance, they will be almost certain to qualify for the next phase. That will be depending on Tottenham’s result in Monaco. If the Hotspurs lose and Leverkusen manages to take a draw the German team is in the next phase.
The first game of these two teams ended with a draw. CSKA managed to come back from the dead scoring two goals and getting one point in Germany. At that point, that was a disaster for Leverkusen. But now they are in much better shape and they’re coming to Moscow for all three points. Although they have lost the last match in German championship their game wasn’t bad. As always Chicharito is the main threat to the opponent’s goal. A problem for the guests will be Karim Bellarabi injury. 26-year-old right winger torn his muscle last week and he will be out at least until the end of the year. Leverkusen will probably push the backline of CSKA Moscow and try to maintain constant pressure on central defenders waiting for their mistake. We all know that Chicharito is the best in this sort of situations. He will get help from Hakan Calhanoglu and Julian Brandt . If they win, it will probably be because one of these two guys started the play or assisted.
Also, visitors will wait for counter-attacks because they have an extremely fast transition. Jonathan Tah and Omer Toprak will have to keep an eye on Lacina Traore and if they are successful, more than half of the job is already done. One of the obstacles for German team will be cold and harsh Russian winter. Weather conditions will be extreme because it is expected to be -10 celsius. That is something that will be on home side’s team.

Possible lineups: Leno; Wendell B. Henrichs, Tah , Toprak; Bender Chalhanoglu, Brandt, Kampl; Voland, Chicharito

Bench: Ozcan, Dragovic, Kiesling, Jedvaj, Kruse. Aranguiz

Manager: Markus Krusche
