CSKA Moscow team news
Hard-fought victory against Ufa in home championship indicates that CSKA is not in good shape before this match. Something is not quite right. It is their first victory in last five matches, after losing three and manage to have one draw, it is refreshing news for the Russian capital team, but their game was not so very confident. Berezutski and Ignashevich are in bad,bad shape, and these two players are main weakness in this team. Old, slow, they just can keep up with younger and quicker opponents. Also, big minus for home team is the suspension of Roman Eremenko. Finnish player is a mastermind in CSKA game, even with him they were not good, and now without him, it would be a difficult task to win, especially AS Monaco who is on the hot-streak in European games. He was suspended because of consuming snus, chewing tobacco, who is not on an illegal list but is considered as a stimulant. An awkward situation. This is must win situation for CSKA, as they have lost against Tottenham at their own ground, in a previous round, making one point snapped in Leverkusen worthless if they don’t win today. But with this performance, it will be tough. Lacina Traore will be the main target of his teammates and the biggest threat to Monaco defense ,as he is the best scorer with 3 goals. Alan Dzagoev and Dusko Tosic will have to play their best in order for the home team to win. Of course, that is if defensive line manages to hold on. CSKA will try to avoid AS Monaco defensive block in the middle, and they just have to push the ball along the flanks, this is why Tosic has to take a crucial part in this tactic. Quick passes, and without contacts, because AS Monaco is a pretty physical team.

AS Monaco team news
The team from Monte Carlo lost this weekend’s game in Frenc championship against Toulouse 3:1. But they are in good shape, as they are unbeaten in their last 5 Champions League games, taking 4 wins along the way. In the last match against Bayer Leverkusen, they scored in the last seconds of the match and won one point that made them first in their group. After an excellent match in London where they beat Tottenham, now they are in much more comfortable position and they can get into this game without pressure. Coach Leonardo Jardim will be careful when deciding tactics for this match because one point is enough in Moscow. There will be plenty of counter-attacks in their game, strong midfield, maybe a bit defensive minded play. Key player will be Fabinho, not because he scored most goals in his team, but because of his position on the team, defensive midfielder. He must play good defense, and when he, and whole Monaco has possession of the ball, transition toward upfield must be swift and quick. Second biggest danger will be Tomas Lemar, a pacey left side winger, who will often be in a position to storm down his flank toward Igor Akinfeev goal. These two combined scored seven goals this season and they are without any suspicion best tandem in the French team.
Monaco will try to slow the game tempo and concentrate their players in the middle and then try with fast counter-attacks to endanger Akinfeev. The nuisance for French team will be a temperature in Moscow. Clear and cold weather, predicted some 2 degrees, is not going to be pleasant for players who are playing most of their matches in the Mediterranean climate. But this is Champions League. Tere are no excuses.
Subasic – Sidibé, Glik, Jemerson, Touré – Lemar, Fabinho, Moutinho, Silva – Germain, Carrillo
Manager: Leonardo Jardim
Bench: Bakayoko, Ragi, De Sanctis, Traore, N’Doram.
These two teams never played against each other. CSKA have played against French teams on 10 occasions and they have an even record with 4 wins, 2 draws, and 4 losses. Monaco has the similar record against Russian clubs. 8 matches 3 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws. But one thing is important. Monaco never won a single game in Russia.
This will be a match with a lot of duels, fouls, and with few chances for scoring. We will not see some attractive plays or some creative moves because these teams don’t play that way. They are physical, hard-playing sides, where you can see many long shots, and set pieces, so do not expect many goals. Monaco is closer to win, because they have no pressure, unlike home team, who will have to play more open, and that is the perfect chance for fast players in visitor team.
If you like to bet on the number of goals, under 2,5 is pretty good to play for this game.
