Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting Lisbon FC Match Preview

Many have expected that these two teams would be point on in a race for the second spot in Group F, but as it seems right now that battle will not happen as the hosts Borussia Dortmund awaits the visiting team Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night clash at the Signal Iduna Park!!!

The situation in group F, however, could get complicated should the visitors manage to somehow pull off a win away and revenge the defeat suffered to the same team two weeks ago. Notable for the first fixture between these two teams is the fact that Borussia played without couple of key players and still won that game with 2:1!!!

Borussia Dortmund

The German team sits very well midway through the group stage as the own 7 points from the first three games and currently hold the top position of group F with the same number of points as the big favorite of this group, Real Madrid!!! One minor problem for the hosts, entering this match, is the fact that ever since the win away in Portugal, Dortmund has recorded 3 drawn matches and failed to win. However, this would be the perfect timing to find their best form and with a win from this match, they would secure the next stage of the Champions league. Although they have not been in a great form as of lately in the domestic competition (1 loss and 3 draws), the fans certainly hope that their team will find the form and record a comfortable win. Coach Tuchel had some problems with the injuries of Bender, Durm, Kagawa, Reus and Schmeltzer, who remain questionable for tonight game.

Sporting Lisbon FC

Sporting is starting to slowly fall apart in all fronts. Actually, they did manage to record a win over Famalicao in the Portuguese Cup (1:0), but their performances in the domestic competition and in the Champions league are not giving high hope for a successful season. In the national competition Sporting has recorded three straight draws, which only pushed them further down on the table, as they hold only the 4th spot with 18 points (7 less than the leader Benfica). Considering the way Benfica has been playing lately (even in the Champions league), Sporting will have a hard task to close the gap and attack the title in the domestic competition. On the other side, the situation is nothing better in the Champions league, as they are slowly slipping away from the two top teams in the group Real Madrid and Dortmund. With only 3 points from 3 games, and a tough Wednesday night away game against Dortmund, the Portuguese team will hardly make it to the next stage of the UCL. For that to happen, they will need a shocker at the Signal Iduna Park, which would put them right on the tail and give them hope to change things around and still make the knockout stage!!! Jefferson and Silva remain sidelined, while Paulista is still questionable for this matchup!!!

None of the two teams has been playing in a great form as of lately, which means that the will look for a significant improvement tonight. Borussia is tough to beat in front of their supporters and considering how offensively they like to play at home, we can expect a very open game with a lots of goals. Sporting has nothing to lose in this match, which means they will have to open up and create attacks right from the whistle!!!

However, Borussia remains the favorite to win this game, but look for both teams to score. Additionally, this should be a high scoring match with 3+ goals!!!

Borussia Dortmund expected lineup: Burki – Piszczek, Sokratis, Ginter, Guerreiro – Weigl – Dembele, Castro, M.Gotze, Schurrle – Aubameyang
