Radamel Falcao is back!!! The Colombian striker, and one of the best scorers in the Europe (couple of years ago) shined on Wednesday night with two goals as his team Monaco defeated the visitors CSKA Moscow with a comfortable 3:0 win!!!
The Stade Louis II Stadium was packed and I am sure that every single fan in attendance was enjoying the performance of the hosts who absolutely deserved this win, considering what they have showcased. On the other side, the visitors did create some scoring chances but in general, they were not up to the task and never really seemed like a team who could win points in this match.
It did not take too long for the hosts to jump off to a quick lead as Valere Germain put his team upfront with a lovely goal in the 13th minute. He really did not have a difficult task to score, as he received a killer pass and found himself in a one-on-one situation with the keeper and smoothly sent the ball into the back of the net.
The visitors, CSKA, tried to come back quickly but their effort to score was denied in the 16th minute as Danijel Subasic (Monaco) pulled of a superb save to deny Aleksandr Golovins shot from the edge of the box. CSKA continued to attack and came close to scoring once again in the 25th minute but Subasic was there once again to deny their efforts, this time of Carlos Strandberg who fired a shot towards the goal from a close range.
Both teams were in a good mood to play as their attacks exchanged often and it was clear from the get go that there would be more than just 1 goal on the match.
Then, Radamel Falcao stepped on the scene. First, in the 29th minute the Colombian found himself in a close range of the goal after Benjamin Mendy slipped a lovely pass to create some room for Falcao, who at that moment had no difficulties of directing the ball inside the goal. It was 2:0 for the hosts!!!
The same player scored his 2nd goal and his team’s third of the match, in the 41st minute after displaying some nice movements inside the box before finding the back of the net. The goalkeeper had no chance.
Although we expected much more from the visitors in the second half, it was the hosts who continued to push forward, creating several more scoring chances through Falcao in the 56th minute, Bakayoko (85th min) and Carrillo (88th min), but all of them failed to score and the final score remained Monaco 3 – 2 CSKA Moscow!!!!
With this very important win, Monaco remained in control of the Group E as they are now ranked 1st with 8 points, Bayer Leverkusen is 2nd with 6 points, Tottenham is 3rd with 4 points and CSKA Moscow is at the bottom of the group with only 2 points.
Although 4 rounds have already been played, nothing is clear yet in this group. Monaco awaits Tottenham at home in Round 5, while CSKA Moscow will have a chance to get back on the winning ways as the will host the German side Bayer Leverkusen!!!
