Group A matchup between Ludogorets Razgrad and Paris Saint German turned out to be a very exciting game, as many have expected it to be.

With both teams coming off from a 1:1 draw in their first round, both coaches were hoping to earn their first win of the season in the Champions league. Ludogorets proved to a tough cookie in round 1 as the came close to winning all 3 points away at Basel, but the hosts leveled the score (1:1) with only 11 minutes to go, so both teams had to settle for a draw. On the other side, PSG players created many scoring chances in their first round at home against Arsenal, but simply failed to score on many occasions, and PSG settled for only 1 point.

The Wednesday matchup at the National Vasil Levski stadium started off with the visiting side creating the first scoring opportunity in the 6th minute as Edison Cavani saw an open look outside the penalty area but his shot ended just over the bar.

After a harsh tackle by Thiago Motta in the 15th minute, the referee awarded the host a free kick just outside the box line. Natanael stepped up to take the free kick which he executed perfectly with a lovely strike towards the right bottom corner of PSGs goal, putting the home team upfront 1:0.

After conceding the goal, the visitors pushed forward and it seemed like there was only one team on the pitch. Creating pressure on the hosts, the visitors knew that they needed a goal before the halftime mark. The pressure paid off finally in the 41st minute as Marco Verratti produced a lovely pass towards Blase Matuidi inside the box, who displayed a nice movement between couple of defenders, firing a strike behind the goalkeepers back and leveling the score 1:1.

Coming from the break, PSG felt that their opponent was tiring down, so they took the complete control of the game, creating couple of more open looks towards the goal, starting off the 2nd half.


After a sliding tackle of Natanael, PSG was awarded a free kick, almost at the same spot from which the hosts made it 1:0 in the 15th minute. It was Angel Di Maria who executed the free kick only to connect with Edison Cavani inside the box whose header was to powerful for the goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov and the French champions took the lead in the 55th minute.

Ludogorets had a chance to level the score only minutes later as they were awarded with a penalty kick in the 59th minute, after Motta committed a foul inside his own box.

Cosmin Moti stepped in to execute the penalty but his shot to the bottom left corner was perfectly denied by the superb PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

In the 60th minute Lucas had a nice run on the right wing firing the ball towards the middle of the box only to find Cavani wide open, who fired a lovely shot past the goalkeeper, scoring his second goal of the night and increasing the lead to 3:1.

PSG had couple more scoring opportunities until the end of the regular time, but the hosts goalkeeper Stoyanov saved his team from a much bigger defeat.

Although PSG proved to be too strong for the Bulgarian side, it was noticeable that Ludogorets was once again a tough and an uncomfortable opponent. With only two rounds down, it is clear that PSG and Arsenal will be fighting for the top 2 spots in group A, while Ludogorets will have to battle for the third spot with Basel.

PSG and Arsenal have 4 points each to top the Group A, while Ludogorets and Basel are taking the 3rd and 4th spot with only 1 point each.
