FC Sevilla vs Juventus Game Review

What a brilliant night for the Italian side Juventus who defeated Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium with a score of 3:1. On the other side the hosts remained heartbroken considering the fact that they were the ones who jumped off to an early lead after only 9 minutes of play, when Pareja scored with a fine volley finding the bottom left corner of the goal.

The hosts continued their fierce attacks towards the Juventus goals, creating several scoring chances in the 17th minute when Sergio Escuder took a shot from the edge of the box, but his effort went just over the crossbar.

Luciano Vietto tried his luck in the 26th minute with a lovely header from close range but his shot missed the goal, as well. From this moment on the visitors started playing much better, with Mario Mandzukic creating a lovely chance from inside the box, but his shot missed the spot going well off the post.

Although everything seemed to be going perfectly for the hosts, it was in the 36th minute of the match that Sevilla was left with one man short, after the referee showed the red card to Franco Vazquez who made a bad foul.

With extra men on the pitch, Juventus gained much needed boost in confidence and started playing much better, controlling the possession of the ball much more. Just as the referee was about to signal the end of the first 45 minutes, Garbiel Mercado (Sevilla) made a foolish mistake holding one of his opponents inside his own box, which was immediately penalized and the visitors were awarded a penalty kick. Claudio Marchisio stepped forward and scored from the penalty spot leveling the score with 1:1.

It was certainly another setback for the hosts, who showed a lot of nervousness on the pitch, while off the pitch their Coach Jorge Sampaoli kept putting pressure on the referees, only to eventually being sent off by Mark Clattenburg.

Leonardo Bonucci scored the second goal for his team in the 84th minute after a great volley from just outside the penalty area leaving no chance for the keeper to save his goal.

Mario Madzukic only sealed the deal for his team in the added time as he scored from close range in the 94th minute putting his team upfront with 3:1 and taking the throne of the group H with 1 point ahead of Sevilla.

With 5 games played in the group, the situation is as following:

Juventus is ranked first with 11 points, Sevilla is 2nd having collected 10 points, Lyon is 3rd with 7 points, while Dinamo Zagreb is at the bottom with 0 points.
