COPENHAGEN, Denmark — FC Copenhagen welcomed the visiting team Club Brugge at the national arena Parken Stadium hoping to capitalize on a great form, especially after stealing a point against Porto in a first round of group G.

The visiting side hoped to correct their poor performance from their opening round in which they hosted the English Premier League champion Leicester City at home and lost with 0:3 after a very disappointing play.

However, the home team jumped off to a great start after creating some nice scoring opportunities in the first half, proving that they are going to be a tough team to beat, even by much bigger teams.

The visitors had a nice chance to score in the 21st minute after Vanaken lofted a nice cross and connected to Claudemir whose header from close range was nicely deflected by the Lions goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

The fans saw one more scoring opportunity as the first 45 minutes were closing down. Copenhagen’s Peter Ankersen executed a lovely free kick in the 40th minute only to see the visiting goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle dive for a nice save and deflecting the ball towards the corner.

The first 45 minutes was marked by a great play from the host, although the visitors had couple of chance as well, but the score had not changed. It was 0:0.

The home team needed some help after visitor’s defender Stefano Denswil deflected a cross into his own net, helping the home team to kick off their scoring. From that moment on, only one team existed on the pitch. The same player made a bad challenge in the 61st minute, in his own box and the referee had no other choice but to point at the penalty spot.

Ludwig Augustinsson stepped in to take the penalty, but the visiting goalkeeper anticipated the direction of the ball and saved his goal. However, Ludovic Butelle was helpless in the 64th minute after a magnificent strike of Thomas Delaney, who made it 2:0.

The scoring did not stop there, as the home team continued to push forward and kept creating chances. Only 5 minutes after their second goal, Copenhagen made it 3:0 with a perfectly executed cross from the corner by Augustinsson in the 69th minute. The teasing cross found Federico Santander, who netted the ball from a close range.

Although Augustinsson has missed his opportunity to score in the 61st minute from the penalty spot, he made sure to provide a couple of nice passes that led to a goal. In the closing minutes he provided another lovely pass from the corner finding Mathias Jorgensen who connected with a beautiful header only to make it the final score 4:0.

The host proved once again that they are in a great form and that they have some great players who can make the change on the pitch. On the other side the visitors, who waited 11 years to get back in the group stage of the most elite clubs competition, are traveling home devastated. They will need to improve their game rapidly, if they want to bring some joy to their fans.

After two round the standings of the Group G are as following: Leicester City is taking the top with 6 points, Copenhagen is 2nd with 4 points, Porto is 3rd with only 1 point and Club Brugge is at the bottom with 0 points.
