CSKA Moscow 1-1 AS Monaco review

Monaco is really under the lucky star in this year’s Champions League. Once again they managed to maintain undefeated in the last minutes. We can’t say that French team hasn’t played well, but if CSKA won it would have been fair.
The game started with away team dictating the pace of play and trying to impose their own style. Possession of the ball was on their side, they had a couple of corner kicks, but they didn’t have any chance of scoring.
But CSKA was able to score first. Ionov went down the right flank, center the ball into the box, and Lacina Traore shot wide over the goal from some 11 meters. He was in a good position to score although goalkeeper was rushing toward his.
Then the 13th minute of the game, through ball to Tosic was sent, but Subasic reads the game well, and he clears the danger one step before Serbian winger.
Five minutes later, Thomas Lemar, made a shot from some 20 meters trough the middle of the box but it goes over the bar.
This was the part of the game where we could see a good game, and where both teams thought that they can make some advantage.
25th-minute of the game, Tosic again tried from the right side into box area, but he made the shot with his weaker right leg, and Subasic saves this one.
And then CSKA draws the first blood. after 33 minutes, Tosic who had an excellent game once again entered the box area from the right side, but this time he shoots with his left foot, strongly, to the opposite side if the Subasic goal, Monaco goalkeeper deflects the ball, but just to reach Lacina Traore who puts the ball into empty net.
And he is on a loan from Monaco !!!

What an interesting situation do we have here.
Then Monaco attacked with all the power, and from 40th minute until halftime they had big chances to score. First Lemar takes the shot, but it was blocked and Monaco earned a corner.
After this corner, best chance for Monaco so far, when Andrea Raggi picked up the ball after a ricochet in the box and shoots from 5 meters, powerful, but directly to Akinfeev. He was able to choose, where he wants to put the ball.
and then couple minutes later Lemar had another chance, when he stormed trough the middle, passing one by one CSKA defenders, but when he needed to shoot he made an extra move, and his teammate made a crowd, and boy was Thomas Lemar furious with this turn of events.
God first half at CSKA arena in Moscow.
Secon one started slower, both teams played in the middle, Golovin had an excellent chance in the 53rd minute, when he got to the ball in the box but he sent it wide of the bar.
CSKA imposed their style of play, slow with many duels and tried to defend their lead.
Monaco started to play better, and in the 67th minute after the long shot from Fabinho, Akinfeev deflected the ball. Lemar picked up the ball on the left side of the field send a low pass into the box, and Valere Germain shot just near the right post of CSKA goal. Again good opportunity.
Six minutes later Bakayoko makes a lob pass to Mendy who runs into the left side of the box and shoots aiming right bottom corner of Akinfeev goal, but Russian goalkeeper saves the attempt.
Monaco kept on pushing to the goal, but CSKA defended well.
Until 87th minute. Bernardo Silva centered the ball from the right side, Carillo somehow gets to the ball and shots from inside the box some 11 meters to the left side of the goal, Akinfeev makes a superb intervention, but the ball goes to Bernardo Silva again who puts the ball into opposite side of the goal, into the little net. Monaco players go wild after scoring this one, they were ecstatic.

Akinfeev went furious, because in his 41st game in European competitions he haven’t managed to keep a clean sheet. And he did everything he could, but his defense is not good as he is, to be honest. They just can’t keep up with him.
After this goal, nothing interesting happened because Monaco defended well and there was not any time left to change anything.
CSKA lost their perfect chance to get into the race for the next phase. Now they have to win on an away game just so they could even think about that. This was a huge disappointment for both them and the fans.
On the other hand, Monaco is doing just fine after they avoid losing two games in the last moments of the match. They are first in group E and are in excellent position to reach the second phase of the Champions League.
The game was interesting, cold weather in Moscow didn’t prevent players from showing us what Champions League is about. The match turned out to be exciting, many chances were created, we saw two goals and many duels.
CSKA played their game with a lot of runs with the ball, Monaco relied on individual quality, and we could say that Bernardo Silva is the man of the match, because in every action he was a vital link for the Monaco. Afterward, he scored a goal, and that makes him the central figure of this match, alongside Traore, Tosic, and Lemar.
