Borussia Monchengladbach 1 – 1 Man. City Game Review

Borussia Monchengladbach hosted Manchester City on match day 5 at the Borussia – Park hoping to collect three points and keep their chances alive of reaching the next stage of the UEFA Champions league.

The host have not playing well in the domestic league with only 12 points collected, holding the 13th spot, while the visitors, Manchester City is ranked 2nd just behind Chelsea, with 27 points from the first 12 games.Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey) the main referee of the match blew the whistle and signaled the start of the game.


Hosts had the first chance of the match but Fabian Johnsons effort was perfectly denied by the goalkeeper, after Johnson fired the ball from the edge of the box in the 7th minute. It seemed that the host came out more determined to win points as opposed to their opponents whose tactics relied on patiently waiting the mistakes of Borussia Monchengaldbach.

Raffael picked up a nice cross from top of the box and directed a nice shot towards the right post, putting his team up front in the 34 minute. IT was a perfectly executed shot which gave a result immediately.

After conceding a goal, the visitors had a nice chance through Ilkay Gundogan whose shot from the top of the box was denied from the keeper.


The hosts continued to create chances, despite the fact that they were up front with 1:0. Namely Wendt pulled off a lovely solo effort finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper Bravo, who thwarted Wendts shot.

Just as the referee was getting ready to blow the whistle and signal the end of the first half, Man City combined for a nice action when De Bruyne broke free and provided a lovely cross into the middle of the box finding David Silva, who had no troubles of finding the back of the net. The score was 1:1.


Lars Stindl was sent off after seeing second yellow card in the 51st minute of the match after committing a foolish foul.  However, the visiting team has not had the advantage on the pitch for a long time, as Fernandinho was sent off as well in the 63rd minute, committing a desperate foul when the hosts tried to create an counter attack

It was the visitors who controlled all of the major aspects of the tonight’s match, keeping the ball possession with 60%. De Bruyne fired a shot from distance but only to see the keeper denying it towards the corner.

With the final score 1:1 Manchester City has secured the spot in the final 16 of the UEFA Champions league, while the tonight’s hosting team, Borussia Monchengladbach could still seal the third spot and continue the competition in the Europa League.
